Impact Licensing Initiative
The Impact Licensing Initiative (ILI) is a Belgian non-profit organisation founded in 2019 with the mission of developing innovative methods to harness technologies and data for societal value creation across Europe and beyond. ILI’s core activities include screening technologies for their potential societal impact, negotiating impact licensing agreements, and securing impact investment. Additionally, ILI has pioneered a framework for using impact licensing as a tool for providing technology access during regional crises. Over the past three years, ILI has successfully established a sustainable business model, where its core activities are pre-financed by impact investors, who recover their capital through key milestones in the societal technology transfer process. Looking ahead, ILI aims to scale its impact by expanding its governance and business model to a European-wide level, positioning itself as a catalyst for promoting and facilitating the adoption of impact licensing across companies, universities, and research centers throughout Europe.
Role within ILI
The ILI’s role in the project includes overall project coordination, developing and validating the toolkit for impact licensing, as well as driving the sustainability planning through the establishment of the Impact Licensing Institute..
